Fall is fastly approaching! The leaves are starting to turn yellow and the nights are getting cooler. Here at Orchid Experience we use yoga to help us stay warm and grounded as the season starts to change. Here are our 5 favorite poses to help us warm up.
You don’t need to go very deep, but the important thing in this pose is to keep your knees in line with your middle toes. If you place your hands on the outsides of your thighs and press your legs into your hands you’ll start to engage your glute medius a little more and stretch your adductors (inner thighs). This pose targets many of the large muscles in your legs helping you build heat.
Also known as high lunge, this pose also engages the large muscles in the lower body (gluteus maximus, hamstrings, and quadriceps). The biggest misconception about this pose is that the back leg needs to be straight. If you bend your back knee, you actually build more heat and can get a better stretch into your back leg hip flexors.
Heart openers are known for their warmth building properties. Squeeze your butt (glutes), engage your core, and reach your heart center towards the ceiling.
This heart opener is just as much about the bend as it is the glute and quadriceps engagement. The warmth in this pose comes from both the heart opening properties as it does the large muscles working.
Making it restorative while building heat can feel impossible, but this supported fish on a yoga wheel (which can also be done on blocks) can fit both bills.
Before moving into any yoga poses, make sure you’re healthy and able. Listen to your body and only go into a pose that feels right for you. Doing yoga asana is a great way to help you get out of your head while you’re on the infertility journey.
