I hear people often say “I meditate all the time.” When I ask how they do it, or what it's like for them, I often get a similar answer: “I just sit and think about things.” Hmmm… In yoga, we often talk about ‘sitting with it’ but maybe there’s a misunderstanding of what this actually means.

We were convinced we would have an easy time getting pregnant, we were young, and we were healthy. After a year of trying my husband suggested that if we weren’t pregnant at the end of that month that we go get checked out. I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to go. I didn’t want to know that there was something wrong, or maybe. I didn’t want to know the road was going to be hard.

A few years ago, a piece of stained glass Michelle had created crashed into the concrete floor of her old apartment. After cleaning up all of the little broken shards of blue glass, she carefully packed it away vowing to never trust one of those plastic hanging hooks again.

I’m a true believer that we must be willing to accept ourselves completely before we can meet someone elsewhere they are. Learning how to accept yourself takes time. It’s hard work. And yet it’s so beautiful when you’re on the other side. Here are three impactful ways to work towards accepting all of you.

The first month you pull the goalie, in the bedroom, you get a little hopeful at the end of the month, thinking, “maybe we’ll get lucky.” You don’t think much of it ‘cause you know you only have about a 30% chance of getting pregnant (assuming you got the timing right).
