It’s O.K. to Not Know

We live in a society of instant gratification, and with that comes the expectation to know what we want. It only makes sense right? You can’t be gratified without knowing what you want. Oftentimes these things that we want are superficial, this isn’t a bad thing, sometimes we want a doughnut and that is O.K. But this current pandemic has put everything in a place of uncertainty, not just for what the future holds, but sometimes even uncertainty of what we want. And again, that’s O.K. So how do we reconcile this?

Be Present

We preach this a lot, but being present – in the moment – is one of the best ways to heal anything. If you’re enjoying what you have in front of you, you’re less concerned about what you want, or need. Who else has been enjoying staying at home? 🙋‍♀️ (and that’s coming from an extrovert) If you need help cultivating mindfulness (another way of saying “Be Present”) check out this recent blog post after all it’s #MindfulnessMay

Distract

Some of us have had Stay At Home orders for over 2 months now. During that time you probably tried a few new hobbies. Maybe there’s another new one you can start? Try something you would never do in public. Try something you think is the opposite of who you are. It’s starting to get nice outside, maybe you can practice social distancing outside? Do something to take your mind off of the situation.

Journal

…Another thing we’re big fans of here at The Orchid Experience. Journaling can help you get clear on what you do want, and sometimes what you don’t want. If you don’t know where to start with journaling check out this post.

Know What you Don’t Want

This can be just as powerful as knowing what you do want. Write it down. See if this can help you feel satisfied.

If You Still Aren’t O.K.

If you’re in the midst of your infertility struggle this can be more difficult. You might be thinking “each month is another egg down the drain.” A few weeks back we wrote a post called Don’t just do something, Sit there. That post can help you wrap your head around everything that’s swirling through your mind. Another option is to download our ebook Reset Your Fertility Mindset. This 125-page book will help you shift your fertility mind-set.

It’s tough not knowing what the future holds. It’s even harder to not know what you want, but being mindful and enjoying each moment can help you shift your focus from needing to know, to being ok with not knowing.
