Last week we talked briefly about how each Yama shows up in our daily life as it relates to infertility. (If you missed that blog post, go back and read it so that you have a solid understanding first.) We also mentioned that they help inform how we filter, decipher, and choose to respond based on our internal landscape. That’s the piece of the puzzle that we’ll look at today.

The Yamas are the first limb of the eightfold path and are often referred to as ‘the restraints’. At a high level, they’re how you interact with the world around you. On a deeper level, they help inform how you filter, decipher and choose to respond (not react) based on your internal landscape.

Most of us know the Golden Rule – Treat others the way you want to be treated. We wouldn’t want someone to steal our money, car, pet, or purse. So, in turn, don't take those things from others. It seems so simple “don’t steal.” But if only it was that simple.

Surrendering to what is or the reality right in front of you while trying to conceive is a tough one. Ishvara Pranidhana is just that. This niyama asks us to let go of what we want something to be and embrace what something is right now. It also asks us to trust what is being offered vs. trying to force something into existence.

Satya, the second of the five yama principles, is about speaking your truth. Satya asks us to honor the seeds of truth we know are there but we may not want to witness for ourselves or express to others. Infertility is one of those truths we tend to hide due to feeling shame, guilt, or for some other emotion.
